There are objects that do not need a loud, polished sparkle to capture your attention; their power lies entirely in their silence, their texture, and their hidden mystery. My latest creation is a return to the roots of slow, uncompromising craftsmanship—a tribute to nature and the timeless aesthetic of memento mori. Today, I want to invite you behind the scenes of my studio to show you how this unique mixed-media talisman came to life.
A Dialogue of Fire and Patience: Crafting the Pendant
This pendant is a wearable miniature ecosystem, a protective capsule created completely from scratch. To capture this raw, primitive energy, I had to combine several complex and demanding artisan techniques:
- Hand-Fused & Curved Glass: The centerpiece of this necklace is a custom glass terrarium. To achieve this smooth, protective dome that securely houses the fragile insect, I individually melted and bent the glass at extreme temperatures. It is an exacting process that requires absolute focus.
- The Raku Ceramic Foundation: Inside the glass capsule, underneath the dried beetle specimen, lies a handmade ceramic tile. This plate was fired using the traditional, highly unpredictable Japanese Raku technique. The thermal shock of the Raku fire is what created those mesmerizing, organic crackle lines in the white glaze, beautifully anchoring the piece in a rustic, primitive art style.
- The Tiffany Soft-Solder Framing: Once the internal elements were perfectly set, I sealed the miniature world. Using the classic Tiffany stained-glass method with eco-friendly, lead-free tin, I built a heavy metal frame. I then patinated the metalwork, styling it to mimic beautifully aged, dark antique silver.
Industrial Nostalgia: The Vintage Carry
Nothing in this design is accidental. To give the pendant the perfect visual weight and balance, it is suspended from an authentic vintage brass chain with stunning, distinctively geometric links.
The true exclamation point of this piece is the heavy-duty vintage brass swivel clasp. Rather than hiding this element at the back of the neck, I brought it straight to the front, placing it right next to the geometric metal bail. Its deep, natural patina transformed a functional closure into a powerful, raw accent that completes the avant-garde look.

A Singular Artifact: One of a Kind (OOAK)
Because of the volatile nature of a Raku fire, the completely organic uniqueness of the insect, and the hands-on process of fusing glass, this necklace is an absolute One of a Kind masterpiece. Recreating an identical twin to this piece is physically impossible. It is a wearable artifact born for those who express themselves through dark academia or cottagegoth fashion, collect oddities & curiosities, or cherish true art to wear jewelry.
